Precision Metal Printing at the Micro Scale
Micro 3D Metal covers the precision ceiling of metal additive manufacturing — DMLS parameter sets optimized for 50 µm layers, 80 µm laser spot diameter, and feature resolution approaching 0.15 mm (0.006 inch). Where standard DMLS optimizes for build rate and part size, micro-DMLS optimizes for accuracy and minimum feature size.
Applications: watchmaking (movement bridges, crown components), surgical instruments (laparoscopic tips, implantable device housings), microfluidics (stainless channels ≥ 0.3 mm), precision sensors, and miniaturized electronics housings.
Standard DMLS tolerances are ±0.003 inch + ±0.001 inch per inch accumulated. Micro-scale parameters achieve ±0.001 inch on small features — at the cost of build rate (25-50% of standard speed).
