Micro-Scale DMLS

Micro-scale DMLS pushes the dimensional limits of the process: 50 µm layer thickness, 80 µm laser spot size, and parameter sets optimized for fine features rather than build rate. Achievable: 0.006 inch (0.15 mm) wall thickness, ±0.001 inch (±0.025 mm) tolerance on features < 10 mm. Materials: Ti6Al4V, 17-4 PH, 316L, CoCrMo. Applications: watchmaking, precision instruments, MEMS housings, microfluidic manifolds, dental prosthetics, minimally invasive surgical tools.

Microfluidics & Lab

Metal microfluidic components require the chemical inertness of stainless or titanium combined with feature resolution below 0.5 mm. DMLS at micro-scale parameters produces internal channels ≥ 0.3 mm diameter, multi-layer channel networks, and integrated fittings. Applications: microreactors, high-pressure fluid distribution, analytical instrument sample handling, and implantable drug delivery device housings.

Watchmaking & Horology

Mechanical watchmaking represents one of the most demanding precision applications for micro-scale metal printing. Watch cases to ±0.01 mm on lug width and crown thread. Movement bridges with spring holes ≥ 0.3 mm diameter and surface finish Ra < 0.4 µm after post-processing. Custom dials in gold or platinum with integrated texture and lettering. Bespoke limited-edition watch components for independent watchmakers.

Surgical & Medical Micro

Minimally invasive surgery demands titanium and stainless tools with complex distal geometries that traditional machining cannot produce at < 5 mm outer diameter. DMLS micro-scale parameters produce functional laparoscopic tips with features to 0.3 mm. ASTM F136 Ti6Al4V ELI for implantable micro-components. ISO 13485 quality management.
